Voices of Calgary Award

Voices of Calgary Award

Voices of Calgary award from Immigrant Services Calgary

The Voices of Calgary Campaign (VoC) is a local initiative funded by the Government of Alberta, with a mission to support equal opportunity in the local labor market for Calgary’s internationally trained professionals (ITPs). The Voices of Calgary Awards are given to employers who are actively engaged in workforce diversification and supporting equal opportunity employment. Distress Centre is honoured to have been selected as an award recipient.

Distress Centre Calgary was one of 13 agencies honoured with the award in 2017. At Distress Centre we feel it`s important that the people who are serving Calgarians are reflective of the people that we serve. It’s important to us that we have the diversity within our organization that exists within the community. Distress Centre’s goal is to hire the best candidate regardless of their cultural background and amount of Canadian experience. We hire people based on their competencies and skills.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, Distress Centre Calgary would like to honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
