Private Members Bill for a National Suicide Prevention Strategy

Publish Date: Thursday, January 19, 2012

Support bill (C-300)

Last fall, Hon. Harold Albrecht tabled a private members bill (C-300) calling for a national suicide prevention strategy or framework.  This bill is likely to go to second reading and debated in parliament sometime in February 2012.  This is a critical time in the process and it is vital that we demonstrate our support for this legislation in order to carry it on to the next stages and a successful outcome.

We are asking our all friends, allies and those concerned about suicide prevention and those affected by suicide to voice their support for this important piece of legislation.  Canada remains one of the only developed nations without a National Suicide Prevention Strategy. A federal strategy would acknowledge suicide as a public health priority, demonstrating leadership and commitment to reducing the number of Canadian who die by suicide every year.

Distress Centre has just submitted a letter of support to Honorable Albrecht and we encourage others to do the same. You can also sign Mr. Albrecht's petition, which is available on his website: www.haroldalbrechtmp.ca Please click on "Private Members Business".

Hon. Harold Albrecht, Member of Parliament, House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0A6
