We are grateful for the groups, individuals and families who raise funds for us through a variety of fun, engaging and often informative community fundraisers. We could not provide our 24 hour crisis services, counselling and referrals without the support.
Outrun the Stigma
Outrun the Stigma is an annual 5k walk/10k run that was started by University of Calgary students in 2013 who noticed a gap in the running culture for runs that raise mental health awareness. Since those beginnings they've raised over $44,000 for Distress Centre!
Listen Up! Calgary
Listen Up! Calgary is an annual charity concert organized by one of our own crisis line volunteers, Rich Paxton. The first event took place in August 2014 and the ongoing concerts have raised roughly $18,000 for Distress Centre. The most recent event took place on October 15, 2016.
Music 4 Life
Music 4 Life is an annual concert series organized by the I Will Survive Association that raises money for Calgary suicide prevention charities, including ConnecTeen. Since their first concert in November 2013 they have raised over $70,000 for local charities. The 2016 concert took place on October 14.
Darkness Into Light Calgary
Darkness Into Light originated in Dublin, Ireland eight years ago and has expanded worldwide with over 110,000 thousand walking/running across Ireland and in four continents, all in support of Pieta House, suicide and self-harm crisis centres throughout Ireland. In 2015, Sharon Whelton, who hails from Ireland but lives in Calgary, organized the first Calgary event. She included Distress Centre as a beneficiary to encourage locals to get involved. The second annual Darkness Into Light Calgary took place on May 7, 2016 and raised $2752 for Distress Centre.
