Music 4 Life
Music 4 Life is an annual concert series organized by the I Will Survive Association that raises money for local mental health and suicide prevention charities, including our youth program, ConnecTeen.
The I Will Survive Association was founded in January 2013 after founders, Steven Leong and Michael Campese lost their close friend and Steven’s cousin, Matt, to suicide. In the weeks and months that followed, the two friends supported each other in their grief, with many conversations arising on the topic of mental illness and suicide. They quickly became aware of the incredible stigma that surrounds the two topics, and from that, I Will Survive was born. Their mission is simple: To remove the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide. Because Matt was a musician they decided to achieve their mission by hosting concerts featuring local musicians.
Since their first concert in November 2013 they have raised over $70,000 for local charities including Calgary ConnecTeen, Canadian Mental Health Association - Calgary Region, Centre for Suicide Prevention, and Calgary Counselling Centre.
The 4th edition of Music 4 Life took place on October 14, 2016 at Flames Central.
Throughout January they are hosting Live Music Thursdays at Vendome Cafe.
