What do you carry with you?
In 2016, Distress Centre Calgary responded to 113,975 phone calls, emails, chats, texts and requests for counselling. People from all walks of life reach out to us for support day or night- parents, professionals, teens, teachers, seniors, to name just a few examples. What we know is that you can’t judge a person’s situation by just looking at them. You never know what someone may be experiencing.
What we carry with us says a lot about what we’re going through.
In our 2016 Report to the Community Distress Centre shared a few of the stories we encountered by showing the contents of the caller’s bag.
We want to spread the word that you shouldn’t judge a person by looking at them and you should strive to treat everyone with kindness and compassion.
To help us spread the word about what Distress Centre does and how we help people experiencing a stressful time, we’re asking you to share what you carry with you. Is there something that you carry that others might find surprising?
Here’s how to participate:
- Take a photo of everything in your purse, backpack, messenger bag or pockets
- Post it on social media with the hashtag #WhatICarry
- Don’t forget to tag us!
Facebook: @distresscentre (make sure your post is set to public so we can see it!)
- Tag a friend or follower and challenge them to share what they carry with them
For every post tagging Distress Centre or using the hashtag #WhatICarry from October 10th to October 17th, a generous donor will donate $1 to Distress Centre, up to $500! Thank you so much for your participation and support of Distress Centre!
