Frequently Asked Questions:
- Will the office be closed during the move?
Yes, our office will be closed Friday, January 31 to Tuesday, February 4th at 9am. There will be no disruption to crisis or 211 services, but counselling services will be unavailable while the office is closed.
- Are Distress Centre’s services still available during the move?
There will be no disruption to crisis or 211 services during the move. This is possible through our partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton and 211 Edmonton, who will be responding to our contacts while we are moving. Counselling services will be unavailable from January 31st till February 3rd and will resume on February 4th.
- Is the new office transit accessible?
Yes, we are just two blocks south of the 8th Street C-train station and we are on a variety of bus routes.
- Is there parking available?
Yes, visitor, accessible and paid parking is available at the back (west side) of the building. There is street parking on 10th Avenue SW as well.
- Why are you moving?
Distress Centre has grown considerably since we moved to our 8th Avenue location back in 2000, nearly 20 years ago! Contact numbers have increased and with it we have brought on more volunteers and staff to respond to the demand. We’ve physically outgrown our current space and are looking forward to moving to a larger, refreshed space to enhance client, volunteer and staff experience.
Moving is part of our year-long 50th Anniversary celebration! Distress Centre has operated in several locations since we first opened our doors in 1970 and we’ll revisit our past locations in the 50 Stories we’ll be sharing over 50 weeks in 2020. All 50 Stories will appear here as they are published.
